Five Ways to Make Your Engagement Ring More Royal

Five Ways to Make Your Engagement Ring More Royal

There’s something irresistible about a royal wedding. Who doesn’t love the boundary-breaking love story of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry? And there’s nothing more romantic than Meghan’s engagement ring, which is perfect in so many ways. Even if you don’t have the budget of a royal, here are five ways you can be inspired by Meghan’s ring and make your own engagement ring more royal.

1. Choose a Cushion Cut

The easiest way to make your ring look like Meghan’s is to choose a cushion cut diamond. The soft rounded corners of this beautiful diamond shape have an undeniable vintage vibe. In fact, the cushion is based on the Old Mine Cut, the first brilliant cut.  Although the cushion cut fell out of favor and was replaced by the round brilliant, modern technology is bringing the cushion back. New hearts-and-arrows cushion cuts have all the light performance of a round brilliant with all the character and charm of the cushion. We’ve seen a surge in demand for our RockHer Brilliant Cushion in the past few months. Although demand for cushion cuts was rising before Meghan’s engagement ring, the cushion reigns as the fancy shape of the moment thanks to Meghan’s ring.

2. Triple the Diamonds

What’s even better than a ring with a diamond? A ring with three diamonds! Meghan’s ring is a three-stone engagement ring with extra sparkle from two side diamonds. Compare this to Princess Diana’s re-engagement ring, which then became Princess Kate’s ring, which was a halo engagement ring, the most popular engagement ring style for the past decade. While traditional three-stone engagement ring styles have a round diamond in the center and fancy shaped diamonds on the sides, Meghan’s has a fancy-shaped diamond in the center and round diamonds on the sides. Flipping the two is a twist on the classic that makes it feel a bit fresher.

3. Be Responsible

Meghan’s center diamond is from Botswana, a place that’s meaningful for the couple. Making a thoughtful choice and making sure that your diamond is responsibly sourced makes it more meaningful for you too. You don’t have to have vacationed in the place where your diamond is from to make its story part of your story.

4. Get Personal With a Custom Design

Even with the crown jewels at his disposal, Prince Harry chose to commission a custom ring. This allowed him to make the design thoughtful and personal, choosing Meghan’s favorite metal and adding personal details and family gems to make it a ring that was the ideal blend of their two lives. Commissioning a custom engagement ring design isn’t limited to royals!  You might be surprised how easy and affordable it now is to create a custom engagement ring today.  You can even do it online; start now by browsing our engagement ring settings!

5. Add Some Family Memories

One of our favorite details is the family gems that Prince Harry used in Meghan’s engagement ring. The round diamonds on either side of the center cushion-cut diamond are from Princess Diana’s diamond earrings.  Harry says that incorporating these gems is a way for her to be with the couple on their special day. Taking diamond stud earrings that have been passed down or a smaller diamond from a family engagement ring and using it as a side stone is a way to keep the memories and legacies of the people who wore them alive for a new generation.
