Determining the Color of a Diamond

The truth is that the color of the diamond might be entirely different, and determining it is a very difficult task that requires special equipment and techniques.

The first requirement to determine the color of a diamond is the complete elimination of the color and light from its surroundings. In this environment, almost all the gems look surprisingly similar. Then, the GIA color scale can be used for the final analysis of the diamond color.

Note that the color detection process becomes even more difficult once a diamond is placed into its designated seat within a jewelry piece. At this point, the diamond color is affected by the surrounding environment, the lights present in it, as well as the metal of the jewelry.

Take the example of an H graded diamond ring seated in the crown. Under normal conditions, this might appear as a D graded diamond. This is due to the influence of the surroundings. Shockingly, many companies take advantage of the lack of knowledge of the people and sell the same as a D graded diamond. Yet sometimes, the same happens accidentally due to the lack of proper equipment for evaluation.
