Diamond Brilliance Explained by the GIA
The Gemological Institute of America, the cut of a diamond is a crucial parameter in deciding the overall brilliance of the stone. When you put up a 1-carat diamond ring for sale, the most important factor that will determine its demand is its brilliance and the ability to captivate people.
The GIA explains brilliance as the intensity of internal and external reflections to the eye coming from a diamond. While there is a common belief that the cut of the diamond has to be perfect to obtain the maximum brilliance in a diamond, new researches contradict such beliefs.
As per the recent studies, the cut of a diamond does play an important part in determining the brilliance of a diamond, but it is not mandatory that the parameters of the cut are always kept rigidly within the limits to ensure the brilliance. On the contrary, there are many ways to get optimum brilliance from the diamond. The studies suggest that there is no need to always adhere to a prescribed depth or table. Instead, the diamonds can be modeled differently and still attain maximum brilliance.
