Almost every time you head to a mall-based diamond jeweler, point to a piece in their collection and ask what it is worth, you will get two answers. The first is their ‘actual’ price, while the second is a much lower ‘discount’ price, because would not you know it, they had a sale running when you decide to show up. What you should know is that this is not a special price; it is what everyone buys it.

Get Quotes

Ask for quotes on GIA certified diamonds from reputed jewelers. Get quotes for the available metal choices as well.

Shortlist

Cherry pick less than a handful of the jewelers offering the best prices and stick to the ones that give quotes pertinent to exact specifications. Drop the ones that dance around your GIA request.

Negotiate

Send a mail to the jewelers offering at the highest prices and tell them you have received a better offer elsewhere. Ask how much lower they are willing to close the deal at, and if they provide additional benefits like free valuations, lifetime maintenance, etc.
