How to Take Care of a Diamond Onyx Ring

Unlike other rings, a diamond onyx ring is actually not suitable for everyday wear as its hardness is only 6.5 to 7 on Mohs’ scale. Therefore, even if you are wearing your onyx ring occasionally, you need to take good care of it.

Cleaning the Stone

Rub off any dirt accumulated in your diamond onyx ring using a soft brush or a dry cloth. It is also okay to use a slightly wet cloth for cleaning the ring. Since this stone is porous and easily absorbs liquids, make sure not to make it wet or soak it in any solution.

Note that using any chemical solutions to clean it will result in a color change of the stone. It is also recommended not to use soap or detergent solutions, and ultrasonic cleaners for cleaning an onyx diamond ring.

Cleaning the Settings

While cleaning your diamond onyx ring settings, you have to take note of the metal used in the ring as well as the setting. Each metal type needs a different cleaning method. So, you need to check that.

Moreover, be careful while cleaning the settings so that it does not affect the onyx at any cost. For instance, a solution of baking soda and water can be used to clean gold settings, but not the onyx gemstone.
