Standard vs. Modified Cushion Cut
Modern cushion cuts are of two types: standard and modified. The differences between these two cuts are technical and rather minor. The effects on the appearance of the stone are almost nonexistent. What does set them apart is their history, since the standard cut has been around longer.
There are people who will tell you that the best way to get a chunkier looking stone is to go in for a standard cut and that the modified version of the cut makes the stone look like crushed ice.
