Some Information on Cushion Cut Diamond Rings

Cushion cut engagement rings have been famous for over a century for their elegance and sophistication. This cut reveals 58 facets and rounded corners, and in an engagement ring, this brings out a certain classic, romantic appeal. The shape of the stone varies from square to rectangular, and the facets allow for increased brilliance and clarity. If you are considering buying a 1.5-carat cushion cut diamond ring, here is some information first.

Modern cushion cuts are of two types: standard and modified. The differences between these two cuts are technical and rather minor. The effects on the appearance of the stone are almost nonexistent. What does set them apart is their history, since the standard cut has been around longer.

There are people who will tell you that the best way to get a chunkier looking stone is to go in for a standard cut and that the modified version of the cut makes the stone look like crushed ice. However, that is simply not true – it makes little difference when you are examining a stone. There is, however, a chunky cushion cut, that shows clearly defined facet patterns when looking down into the table of a stone. Such a cut is called an “antique” cushion cut.
